Gnome Shell – My new favorite Desktop Environment

A couple months ago, I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my old Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx installation to 12.04 Precise Pangolin. Thus, I discovered what a desktop metaphor is, and what all the hype/stink about Unity was about. A Linux environment that resists customization? Hard to believe, I know, but the rumor was indeed true. Still, I decided to give it a chance.

After about 5 hours of frustration though, I was fed up. So what did I do? I went on the internet and read a bunch of Unity hate! (Ah, refreshing!) After that, my knee-jerk reaction was trying to get my old metaphor back, so I downloaded KDE, LXDE, Xfce, and even Linux Mint, but I also decided to try out Gnome Shell too, even though it was supposedly just Unity under a different name.
